Today you will hear better sung and - of course - better recorded versions of this great Mass (one could mention Sawallisch or Leinsdorf for example) - but rarely will you hear it played so dramatically, with such fervor and devotion. This is by all means an excellent rendition of a masterpiece and we have done it proud by a transfer and re-mastering which conveys the atmosphere of a live recording. As common wisdom has it, the Viennese are always better served by the Viennese. A testimony of great art breathing naturally and speaking simply, directly and thus overwhelmingly as few other can.
