I took the Ravel Daphnis with me on vacation to make the tracking: I used the Munch/Boston from 1955 to compare tracks. There are certainly on some places in the Boston Orchestra "better" players, but as a whole the Munch sounds nearly dull compared to Dorati. His performance has so much more tension !!

Paul Badura-Skoda recorded the Partitas many times and played them innumerable. This is his first recording which taught generations of avid music lovers these masterpieces of grace and balance. His playing is exactly that. It can be compared to the magical First Partita by Lipatti preserved on record, and you won’t miss neither style nor good taste with Badura-Skoda. Plus that you can hear all six and in the same noble vein. I can only describe his playing as ethereal. Westminster recorded him in Vienna during the early 1950s in what was for the times the best possible sound – and still is in a way. A worthy memento of a great artist who remained active till his 80s and is happily still with us.
