This is one of the most impressive performances of the music ever recorded, the mono sound is incredible for the period, beautifully capturing rich acoustics of St. Eustache Church in Paris. Bearac's transfer is superb

Ask a question about this product

Only recently we issued the complete set recorded by Vox in the 1950s, in fine mono sound (BRC-2987). We now bring forth the stereo recordings of Archiv Produktion, a much sought after set that was missing. The benefits of stereo are apparent, as is the fine contribution of soloist and conductor. It is a matter of opinion of course whether a positiv organ - as played by Mueller - can make justice to this music. Kraft plays on a very fine modern baroque church organ which really sounds more diverse and interesting than the tonally limited and monochrome positiv played by Mueller. And Reinhardt may not enjoy as brightly lit a recording as that provided by DGG for Wenzinger, but he wins in brio and nuance while not lagging far behind in style. The undeniable asset of the Mueller/Wenzinger set is stereo of course. I do know some collectors who would want both, and so would I. A valuable addition to the catalog.
